CRKN and the ORCID-CA Consortium are pleased to welcome Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) as the newest members of ORCID-CA.
NRCan is a federal government department specializing in the sustainable development and use of natural resources, energy, minerals and metals, forests, and earth sciences. NRCan develops policies and programs that enhance the contribution of the natural resources sector to the economy, improve the quality of life for all Canadians and conduct innovative science in facilities across Canada to generate ideas and transfer technologies. NRCan also represents Canada at the international level to meet the country's global commitments related to the sustainable development of natural resources. NRCan joined ORCID-CA in July 2021.
VIU is a public university located on Canada's magnificent west coast. In research and through partnerships, VIU seeks to understand the rich diversity of the region it serves, and to encourage the well-being of communities. VIU is dedicated to helping learners and communities in the region to embrace their potential.
VIU joined ORCID-CA in November 2021 and looks forward to applying the resources of ORCID-CA as a collaborative capacity building network, to strengthen and extend institutional research and data management infrastructure, to support researchers in managing their work throughout the research process, and to facilitate integration among systems that support research. Collaborative open infrastructure is critical to the future of sustainable open scholarship, but costs of participation can be difficult to scale and prohibitive for smaller institutions. VIU notes that targeted funding from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada was key to facilitating participation in the consortium this year.
NRCan and VIU join over 40 universities, funders, and research organizations from across Canada in ORCID-CA membership. Membership in the ORCID-CA Consortium will allow NRCan and VIU to benefit from dedicated bilingual support and resources, participation in the ORCID-CA community of practice, premium API credentials, and much more.
